miscellaneous | caramelised onion and chilli relish

Serves 2-4

This is a beautiful relish, which is superb with many things. Often, the shop-bought versions contain butter - so this is worth making.

Wheat free, dairy free, nut free, meat free version...

  1. Caramelise the onion, garlic shallots and chilli for 1 hour in the oil and sugar.
  2. Add the garlic puree and balsamic and heat through gently.

This is a gorgeous accompaniment for lots of things, on top of a jacket potato, the quick herby tomatoes or with a salad...

If you have garlic puree, onions and or shallots left, see the mushroom provençal. If you have chilli left, see the mango pepper boats and the bean chilli.
